Book as soon as your holiday plans are firm, and treat Thanksgiving week and New Year’s Eve as the dates to lock in first. Those dates cover family dinners, out-of-town guests and the biggest party night of the year, and the luxury car rental deals on our specials page are easiest to use when you still have a choice of dates and models.
The earlier you book, the more freedom you have to shape the rental around an offer instead of around whatever car is left.
The Busy Dates: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve

Three dates matter most in 2026. Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, Christmas Day on a Friday and New Year’s Eve on Thursday, December 31, with New Year’s Day on Friday, January 1, 2027.
Thanksgiving is one of the heaviest travel weeks of the year. For 2025, AAA’s Thanksgiving travel forecast projected a record 81.8 million people traveling at least 50 miles from home over the holiday period, with the worst road congestion expected on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and Thursday itself relatively light. Christmas falling on a Friday this year creates a long weekend, and New Year’s Eve on a Thursday makes a four-day break easy to arrange.
How Far Ahead to Book a Luxury Car for Thanksgiving and the Holidays
To book a luxury car for Thanksgiving, reserve as soon as you know who’s coming and how many seats you need. If you’re collecting relatives, a seven-seat SUV is the car to secure first, and popular cars book early.
For Christmas, book once you know your travel dates, particularly if you want the car across the long weekend. New Year’s Eve is a single night for most people, but it’s the night everyone wants something special, so leaving a New Year’s Eve car rental in LA to the last week may mean a smaller choice of cars.
If you’re driving between family homes, check Caltrans QuickMap the evening before for lane closures and incidents on your route.
How Our Luxury Car Specials Work
We checked our luxury car rental deals page on the day of writing, and it lists three offers: a discount for first-time renters, weekday savings Monday to Thursday and “Rent for two days, get the third day free.” According to the same page, you can use only one promotion per booking and none on a reservation you’ve already made, so work out which saves you most first.
For holiday trips, the free third day is usually the offer to look at first, since it rewards a rental that covers several days. The specials page also has a short list of cars at reduced day rates. When we checked, those included the black Lamborghini Huracán Evo Spyder at $1,295, the Mercedes-Maybach S580 at $795, the silver Lamborghini Urus at $995, the Lamborghini Urus Widebody at $1,195 and the grey Mercedes GLS 600 at $795. Offers change, so read the page again on the day you book.
Multi-Day Rentals Over the Holidays
Over the holidays, a car for several days often makes more sense than single days. Our site notes a lower rate for each additional day, with the first and second days costing the most, and our Orange County page lists rental lengths of one to ten days, 14 days or 30 days. For longer gaps in between, talk to our team.
Over Thanksgiving, a Wednesday-to-Saturday rental covers the drive to dinner, Black Friday and a Saturday outing. At Christmas, a car from the 24th through the weekend handles Christmas Eve dinner, the day itself and visits on Saturday and Sunday.
In town from Christmas through New Year’s? Price one rental across the whole week against two shorter ones. With the free third day or the lower rate for later days, the longer booking can come out ahead, and you only have one reservation to manage.
Holiday Car Rental Los Angeles Picks: Family Visits or New Year’s Eve
Family visits are about seats and space. Our Los Angeles SUV rentals are the place to start. With seven seats in its listing and a long cargo area, the Escalade ESV Platinum swallows gifts, luggage and the whole family. The Range Rover Sport, listed from $395 a day when we checked, is a comfortable five-seater for a smaller family. A Maybach GLS 600 gives grandparents a quiet rear cabin for the drive across town.
New Year’s Eve is a different brief. For a dinner and a midnight toast, the Maybach S580 is a calm, long-wheelbase sedan with a rear seat that suits a couple being driven by a friend. If the night calls for more attention, the Huracán Evo Spyder or the Urus Widebody will turn heads outside any restaurant. Whatever you pick for New Year’s Eve, decide in advance who drives home, and plan for a sober driver or a ride.
Parking is the other New Year’s Eve question. Choose a restaurant or hotel with valet or a garage you can reserve, and arrive early enough to get a space close to the door.
For a full holiday week in Los Angeles, one roomy SUV often works best, with a sports car added for a single night if someone wants it.
Your Holiday Booking Checklist
- Dates and times: list every day you need the car, including travel days.
- Seats and bags: count passengers, car seats and suitcases before choosing a model.
- The offer: pick one special from the specials page, since they can’t be combined.
- Driver details: the age limit and any young-driver charge depend on the model, so check both with our team first.
- Deposit and miles: each listing shows its own deposit and extra-mile rate.
- Insurance: have your insurer’s details ready; we help visitors from abroad arrange coverage, so ask for the terms in writing if that applies to you.
- The reservation: expect a hold on your card for the rental total and a reservation request email, as our Los Angeles page describes.
