For a Mercedes G-Wagon rental in Los Angeles, you can choose from four G63s in four colors at Monza Exotics (Matte Gold, China Blue, Arabian Grey and Black), plus a black Brabus G800 for anyone who wants the wilder version. The four G63s share the same engine, the same five seats and the same performance figures on our listings, so the real choice is color, and how much attention you want when you hand the keys to the valet.
It’s mostly practical here, too. The G is tall, square and thirsty, but it’s easy to place on the road, it takes real luggage, and you sit high enough that a jammed stretch of the 405 feels a little less closed in. Below is how to choose a color, plus what to expect in parking garages and at the pump.
Every G-Class we rent, with photos of each color, is on our Los Angeles Mercedes rentals page.
Why Did the G-Class Become LA’s Status SUV?
A lot of it is staying power. The G-Class started life as an off-roader, and Mercedes still builds it by hand on a ladder frame in Graz, Austria, and tests it on the Schöckl mountain, according to Mercedes-Benz USA’s G-Class page. The shape has hardly changed in decades: round headlights, flat glass, upright pillars and the spare tire hanging on the back door.
That matters in a city where most luxury SUVs blur together in a parking structure. You can spot a G from a block away, and it reads as expensive without anyone needing to see a badge. The AMG G 63 adds a 577-hp biturbo V8 with side-exit exhaust pipes (Mercedes lists both on the same page), so it sounds the way it looks. That’s why you keep seeing it outside restaurants in West Hollywood and in hotel driveways in Beverly Hills.
Matte Gold, China Blue G63, Gray or Black: Which Color to Rent?

Under the paint, every G63 rental in Los Angeles we offer is the same truck. Each listing shows 577 hp, five seats and a 3.9-second 0 to 60 time, so pick based on where the car is going and what you want it to look like in photos.
- Matte Gold G63. The loudest of the four and the obvious pick for a matte gold G-Wagon rental; strangers ask about it at gas stations. It suits birthdays, content shoots and any night where the car is part of the plan.
- China Blue G63. A deep, saturated blue that changes a lot between shade and direct sun. It’s for someone who wants real color without the flash of gold, and it photographs well against white walls and palm trees.
- Arabian Grey G63. The quiet option for people who want the G’s shape without a headline color.
- Black G63. The classic choice for business, airport runs, weddings and anything with a dress code.
Our team’s simple rule: if the car is the reason for the night, go gold or blue. If the car is just getting you to the reason, go gray or black.
G63 vs. Brabus G800 Rental: What Does the Brabus Add?

Brabus is a German tuning house that specializes in Mercedes. Its program for the current AMG G 63 covers Widestar wide-body kits, Monoblock forged wheels, a sport exhaust with actively controlled flaps, RideControl suspension, and two engine upgrades called PowerXtra B40-700 and PowerXtra B40S-800.
From the curb, the wide body, the forged wheels and the active exhaust are what set a Brabus build apart, so ask the team which of those parts our G800 carries before you book. With them, the first difference you notice is presence: a wider stance, a harder exhaust note when the flaps open, and more people pulling out phones at red lights. If the arrival and the photos are the point, a Brabus G800 rental is worth the step up. If you mostly need a stylish SUV that carries five people and their bags, a G63 does that for less.
If you’re comparing the Brabus with a Rolls-Royce SUV instead, we covered that matchup in Cullinan vs. Brabus G-Wagon.
Is a G-Wagon Practical to Drive in LA?
Size is less of a problem than it looks, because the G is tall and upright. The hood corners are easy to see, the mirrors are big, and you always know where the edges of the car are. You can see over most traffic, which makes lane changes on the 10 or the 101 easier than in a low sports car.
In parking garages, height is the thing to watch. Older structures in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Downtown post their clearance at the entrance, so read the sign before you commit to the ramp. Valet is the easy answer at most restaurants and hotels, and the attendants are used to Gs.
The turning circle isn’t tight. Narrow Hollywood Hills streets, hotel motor courts and tight garage ramps can turn into three-point turns, so slow down and take the wider line.
For fuel, the EPA rates the 2025 and 2026 AMG G63 at 15 mpg combined (14 city, 16 highway) on premium gas, according to FuelEconomy.gov. A 100-mile day works out to roughly six to seven gallons, more if most of it is stop-and-go.
When Is a G-Wagon the Right Rental?
For group nights out, five seats and an upright back seat mean adults ride comfortably. Everyone fits in one car, so you only deal with one valet ticket and one designated driver.
Airport pickups with luggage are where it earns its keep. You land at LAX at 4 p.m. with two big suitcases, a carry-on and a dinner reservation at 7. A G handles that load without a second car. The rear door swings out to the side, so leave some room behind it when you park at the curb.
For photo and video shoots, Matte Gold and China Blue are the two that people book for content. The flat body panels catch light cleanly, and the car looks right against desert backdrops, industrial streets or a hillside driveway.
If you need more than five seats, take a look at the larger options on our Los Angeles SUV rentals page.
